The
Bennington Flag
The
original Bennington Flag is unique in that it
is still in existence today at the Bennington Museum in Vermont.
Tradition holds that the flag was present at the Battle of Bennington,
however, it is more likely that the flag was the creation of Nathaniel
Fillmore, who presented the flag to his nephew, Septa Fillmore
during the War of 1812. Being a veteran of the American Revolution,
the addition of the "76" in the canton would be viewed
as a patriotic reminder of our previous struggle against the British. |
