Applies to ground set poles only. Flagpoles supplied with an optional shoe base (see Installation Options tab) do not extend below ground level and therefore, don't require the additional length.

This is unflagged wind speed. We will provide flagged wind speeds on request, but we strongly discourage even thinking about leaving your flag up in winds like this.

Flagpole Construction

Premium quality flagpoles begin with premium quality materials. Each one of our cone-tapered commercial aluminum flagpoles is fabricated using 6063-T6 aluminum alloy which combines high tensile strength, weldability and an extremely smooth, durable finish—all the right properties for a flagpole material.

They're manufactured for us in the US using a new fabrication process that produces very precise tolerances. The nearly perfect cone-taper gives your pole an extremely clean architectural appearance and has the added benefit of producing a virtually invisible joint in flagpoles that must be shipped in sections.

The best all-around value by far, our satin-finish flagpoles are polished to a high luster using a polishing cloth impregnated with fine-grain aluminum oxide. The aluminum oxide imparts an elegant satin patina, plus it protects the surface creating a finish that's completely maintenance free.

For locations where corrosion might become a problem, usually coastal areas, or if you want a colored finish, we offer bronze and black (as well as clear) anodized finishes as standard. Anodizing is a process using an electrolyte solution and electricity to change the molecular structure on the surface of the aluminum, making it harder and more resistant to corrosion. If you're looking for a color that you don't see here, we have additional anodized finishes available as well as Kynar 500 PVDF resin finishes and PPG Duracron thermoset acrylic finishes.

If you're ordering a flagpole that's 35' long or less, we'll ship it to you in one piece. All flagpoles that measure 40' or longer must be shipped in sections and assembled on site prior to installation. That's because a 40' pole is 44' in overall length, making it too long to fit on a 40' truck (standard tractor-trailer). Assembling sectioned poles isn't difficult and requires no welding. The sections slide together over a self-aligning sleeve which has been pre-fitted at the factory to insure a no-hassle assembly, plus we give you complete instructions and phone support, should you need it.

Standard Accessories

Every Standard-Duty external halyard flagpole is shipped complete with all the parts necessary for a successful installation.

  • Gold anodized aluminum ball ornament.
  • Cast aluminum truck assembly with pulley (at top of pole). Heights through 30' come with a stationary truck and heights starting at 35' through 70' come with a revolving truck.
  • Solid-braided polypropylene halyard.
  • Cast aluminum cleat with mounting screws.
  • One pair flag snaps. 20' and 25' poles come with nylon snaps. 30' poles and taller come with swivel snaps with vinyl covers.
  • Foundation sleeve (often called a ground sleeve). 20' and 25' poles come with a PVC foundation sleeve. Poles 30' and taller come with a galvanized steel foundation sleeve.
  • Spun aluminum flash collar—matches pole finish.
  • Complete installation instructions.

Installation Options

View ground-set installation instructions

Our Standard Duty external halyard flagpoles come standard with additional length and a ground sleeve for in-ground installation. The majority of shorter height poles (20' and 25'), particularly for residential applications, are installed in-ground. It's easy to do and it doesn't require a lot of specialized know-how or equipment. When installing 30' and taller poles however, if you're not familiar with the process, a little professional help will go a long way.

The other installation option is to order a flagpole with a shoe base. The shoe base is a cast aluminum piece that's welded (full circumference weld) to the butt end of the pole. The shoe base comes with anchor bolts that are set in a concrete footer allowing the pole to be bolted to the footer. We also offer the option of a tilting shoe base that allows you to actually lower the pole to the ground for maintenance or in preparation for bad weather. Shoe base installation is usually preferred by contractors, particularly with new construction. In fact, we recommend that shoe base installation only be done by an experienced contractor.

Whether you choose an in-ground installation or one of our shoe base options, you will have to dig roughly the same size hole and pour the same amount of concrete for either one. Before making your choice, it might be helpful to review our in-ground installation instructions and our shoe base installation instructions to get a better idea of what's involved.

Shipping

Because of their size, commercial flagpoles require a truck shipment. And since the cost for a truck shipment varies significantly from location to location, and even from carrier to carrier, it simply is not feasible to estimate what the cost will be to ship your flagpole without first knowing where it's going.

Within 24 hours (Mon.-Fri.) after placing your order and before processing your credit card payment, we'll contact you with the best freight quote available. We usually contact at least three freight carriers and sometimes more if we're not satisfied that we've found the best rate and we don't add any mark-up to the freight, so you pay only what it actually costs.

At that point, it's completely up to you whether we proceed with the order or cancel. If you should decide to cancel, we will promptly void your credit card authorization and no charge will appear on your credit card statement.

If you decide to approve the order, here's how it works: We will first contact the freight carrier ourselves immediately following shipment to get an estimated delivery date (common carriers rarely commit to an exact date) along with the location of the local delivery terminal and that terminal's phone number. We'll call the local terminal to discuss the shipment, get the name of a contact and find out if there are any special conditions we need to be aware of.

At that point, we'll notify you of the shipment and provide you with the carrier, the pro number (tracking), the location of the local terminal, and the phone number and contact at the local terminal. We'll also call the carrier the day prior to or the day of shipment, depending on the circumstances, just to make sure everything is set, but only if you would like us to stay involved.

A Word of Caution

It's vital that you inspect your flagpole as thoroughly as possible before the truck driver leaves. First, make sure that all the items listed on the bill of lading have been delivered. If anything is missing, ask the driver to write it on the bill of lading before you sign.

The driver is most likely not going to wait while you completely unpack everything, but you can still look over the pole for signs of damage during shipping such as dents, fork lift marks, tire tracks, or torn wrapping and packaging, including the box (boxes) that contains the parts. Also look for evidence that the tube the pole is packed in has gotten wet. If any of these telltale signs are present, it's extremely important that the driver make a note of it on the bill of lading. Concealed freight damage is hard to collect on if evidence of it was not noted at the time of delivery.

If there is obvious damage, and it's serious enough that you do not want the pole, then you should simply refuse the shipment. As far as the trucking company is concerned, once you've signed for it, it's yours.

If the pole has been in contact with water anytime during shipment, the paper the pole is wrapped in can stain the pole, given enough time. If the tube the flagpole was shipped in shows signs that it may have gotten wet, it's critical that you unpack the pole as quickly as possible. If the pole is allowed to remain in wet wrappings long enough, it will stain. If the tube shows no signs of water, you can keep your flagpole in the tube for storage in a dry location. If it's necessary to store it outside, you should remove all the wrapping first and be sure not to lay it on the ground.
