Why is Our Legal System Giving a Pass to Illegal Immigrants?

Last week, our local paper reported that a car containing several illegal Mexicans was pulled over by a sheriff’s deputy. The deputy said he smelled marijuana and spotted a .22 caliber hand gun on a seat, but declined to actually perform a search of the car. And if that wasn’t enough, the driver had an expired driver’s license. It bears repeating that the driver and passengers were all in the United States illegally. The deputy simply let the driver go. No arrest, no ticket, no summons – nothing.

Last month, five Mexican high school students in Texas walked out of class, lowered the American flag from the school’s flagpole, and raised a Mexican flag in it’s place. Today, the Houston Chronicle reports that the five pleaded not guilty in court to the charges of disrupting class and “causing a disturbance by hanging the Mexican flag on the American flagpole.” Amazingly, Carlos Lopez claimed that he and his friends were simply overcome with an irresistable and immediate urge to demonstrate a little national pride. “Maybe we offended some people, but that wasn’t the intention. It was to show that we’re proud of who we are and where we came from.” But Lopez and friends are smugly lying. Everything about their actions suggest that they clearly intended to be as offensive as possible without actually killing any gringos.

At any rate, as illustrated by my first story, the five offensive high schoolers will no doubt get off with little or no punishment. And that’s why these two stories, though unrelated, illustrate that the so-called immigration debate we are engaged in is likely to get ugly. These are not isolated incidents. Americans across the country are hearing similar stories over and over again with different names and different circumstances, but always with the same outcome. When it comes to illegal immigrant offenders, law enforcement officials inexplicably fail to perform their duties.

When a society institutionally fails to enforce laws, and particularly when laws that are enforced rigorously for citizens are not enforced for those who have no vested interest in that society, citizens will eventually take up the mantle of law enforcement, and that will not be a good thing.

Well…given the way most of the democrats either a) want to grant them amnesty or b) want to give them scholarships…it’s not wonder this country is in bad shape.

Of course, the republicans aren’t doing much on this front either and neither are willing to take harsh measures or, to be more accurate, are more interested in pushing the other side into taking harsh measures so the affect group will come running to them for “protection”.

I don’t believe most Dems or Repubs care one way or the other about immigration…they only see illegals as a potential source of “voters for the next election”.

Neither side, especially the Democrats (who have made it clear they hate their own country and those who don’t follow their line of thought) don’t care about the country as much as they care about power.

It is Mr. Bush that has pledged the Guest Worker Program aka Amnesty… Also his latest partial border fence.

My comment is why has this important issue disappeared. At least here in Nashville neither senetorial canidate is talking the issue. Nashvilles social atmosphere has dramatically changed in the last 5 years. We have large populations of illegals that have taken over. Larege numbers of businesses with logos and signage all in spanish that as typical American, havent a clue whats in there. DOES THIS NOT SEPERATE THEM FROM US AMERICANS? iS THIS THEIR IDEA OF OVERTAKING MY COMMUNITY?

They flood the streets with their gangs. My son’s school lost its effectiveness to teach because it is changing to a spanish language curriculum. The legal industry and its subsidiary, the criminal justice system, is awash in success because the courts are overwhelmed and the jails are full of new customers the illegal immigrants. The healthcare industry is providing free healthcare at an unbelievable cost to the rest of us. (Free to the illegals but those costs written in to the charges to us in higher health costs).

What are these canidates most important issues? Nothing I hear has any solutions to the effects of this country from the illegal invasion.

Maybe this is the revenge of Montasuma
