Texas Elementary School is Teaching American Kids to Pledge Allegiance to the Mexican Government

Kids wave Mexican flagsVelasco Elementary School in Texas is back in the news. You may remember that Velasco Elementary was the place where a student assembly was held at which the kids waved Mexican flags while adults led them in the Pledge of Allegiance – to Mexico! School Principle Sam Williams expressed shock that his little experiment in “diversity” ignited such a firestorm of controversy. Well, now videos have been released documenting the event: Students waving Mexican flags; and Adults lead the pledge.

While I find it disturbing to watch kids in an American school pledge their allegiance to a foreign country, the far more disturbing issue is that the people who make up our educational system are nearly monolithic in their lack of comprehension of what is wrong with this exercise. Dr. Stephen Klineberg, who teaches sociology at Rice University, is fairly representative of the education establishment mindset when he characterizes the United States as just a part of a “global community.”

Klineberg told KTRH, a Houston radio station, that “it seems entirely appropriate to raise the Mexican flag and hear the way Mexicans pledge allegiance to their flag comparable to how Americans pledge to our flag. It seems to me enormously important to help our young Anglo kids learn an appreciation for the various cultures with which they’ll be dealing in this global economy in the 21st Century.”

Well, either Dr. Klineberg is incredibly inept, or he’s purposely dishonest or perhaps, both. Words have specific meanings and the phrase, to “pledge allegiance” is no exception. According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, “allegiance” means: (1) the fidelity owed by a subject or citizen to a sovereign or government (2) : the obligation of an alien to the government under which the alien resides.

The logical question is, in light of definition number two, why won’t these schools devote resources to teaching the Mexican kids to pledge allegiance to the American flag? Sadly, the standard for intellectual integrity has been so degraded that the act of encouraging impressionable American kids to pledge allegiance to a foreign government can be translated as teaching appreciation for other cultures.

I agree that all schools no matter what city, state we live in should always and only pledge to our country the USA. We may have many cultures living in the U. S. but they all come for a reason because they want what we represent. So we should always be loyal to our country and if they don’t like it they should go back. I don’t mean that in a disrepectful way. They should remember their culture and embrace our ways.

No one wants to pledge to the U.S. flag anymore as its filled with religion and the U.S. has no freedoms left. The Bush admin has ruined our country and the spirit of its people.

Soon we will have to pledge to Bush and not the country. As we are doing whats best for conservatives but not whats in the best intrest of the country.

Okay, “Politics”….if things were truly as bad as you say they were, then how come you’re still able to post your comments without fear of being tracked down and made to “disappear”?

I find it amusing that a lot of people are bitching and moaning about how “Bush is trying to destroy our way of life, Bush is taking my freedoms away, Bush this, Bush that”……jeez. It seems that ALL the world ills are all Bush’s fault these days.

The funny thing is though…they can bitch and moan about Bush, but they’re still living their lives, they’re stil breathing, and they haven’t suddenly “disappeared”. And yet, for some reason, they cheer for the Muslims whenever they kill a bunch of innocent people.

In response to Lisa’s comment, I also agree with how wrong it is to have students pledging allegiance to any other country other then the United States. If American students were to move to another country, start waving the American flag and pledging allegiance to the United States , I’m sure that country would not permit it at all. We need to teach the young students and all immigrants the values and ways of the American society. People from all over the world come here for the ‘American life’. In doing so they must transition into the American ways by foremost learning, engaging and respecting our values.

I love the leftards “Our freedoms are being taken by Bush” mentality.

Liberalism is a disease that is usually cured with age…..

I still haven’t heard one of them tell me exactly what freedom they have lost…. Unless you are talking to terrorists, or supporting them with funds. if so OH WELL sorry for that…

As far as the Mexican flag pledge, I’d have my kid out of there so fast it make their head spin and I’d be waving the proper flag at the start of every school day, right in front of the school.
That school should lose all US government funding let Mexico fund it, Not MY TAX DOLLARS!.

Immigrants that do not assimilate into American culture are parasites. they suck the life out of a country they came to in order to better themselves, and give nothing back.

    illegal immigrants are simply leeches.
Therefore the conclusion can be drawn that America is full of parasites and leeches.

Liberals, Leeches and Parasites, oh my….
